So, we are getting ready to leave for our first race of the season. This means putting all the stuff back in the Motor Home from our house basement. It also means recommissioning the Motor Home from winter storage.

All seemed to be going well with the minor exception that the water pump would run about every ten minutes for a couple of seconds. My thoughts were that water was leaking by the seals in the pump.

That turned out not to be the case. After having the pump on for a full day doing this, I started to get a drip in the doorway of one of the basement compartments on the Motor Home.

Looks like I have a plumbing issue. If you have read my thread, you know how much I like plumbing, and how I always have a leak when I’m done with a project.

Lower left is the bottom lip of the compartment.

Below is the area in back of the front tire.

There is no water of any kind above this compartment and the floor of the Motor Home was dry. So what was happening is the leak was getting between the floor of the Motor Home and the insulation on the ceiling of the basement. So…how am I going to find it? I started to take things apart. I started with the forward most spot that should have water, and that was the Kitchen sink (the Ice Maker is farther forward, but the shut off valve for it has been off since we purchased the Motor Home and we have never used it).

DSC_7658No water here, bone dry. Well maybe the water has already gotten between the floor and the insulation, let’s move further back

DSC_7659So I pulled the bottom draw out of the cabinet, still nothing. I continued to work my way back, pulled the furnace filter, nothing, pulled the floor of the cabinet between the washer and dryer, nothing. The washer/dryer is in back of where the water comes up from the pump. I not pulling the washer/dryer.

DSC_5946So…I go outside and I take the access panel of the City Water Station and I see no leaks. I think about taking the panels of to expose all the piping. I’m not looking forward to that. I decided that just for the grins of it I will pull the Ice Maker to see if I see water behind it.

I removed the mounting screws and the lower cover and what do I find?

That’s right I found a leak where there should not be a leak.

DSC_7686What the heck this shut off valve is off, and I checked again and it is still off. The needle seat in the valve must be leaking

DSC_7682I have been in this area before when I replaced the faucet on the sink, and of course I did a bang up job of fastening everything (four screwed in clamps holding the pipes in place), now it has to come apart again. I’m not a small guy and this area is not a large space. If I ever use the Ice Maker I would want to redo this plumbing anyway so let’s rip it out.

DSC_7687I ran to Home Depot and purchased a cap to cap off the piping for the Ice Maker, installed it, and now the pipe fitting leaks. I HATE PLUMBING.

So I pulled all that piping out.

DSC_7691Now the piping goes directly to the sink. No leaks. While I was at it I replaced the soap dispenser on the sink.

It is now a much cleaner installation.

Does anyone know where to get the tool to crimp these bands? Also I might as well get some fittings and pipe now as it is not code here and no one sells it.

It would be good to have it on hand when the time comes when I need them. I’m sure I will.
