Next task is to get the engine located. I need to do this so that I know where the driveshaft will be located and what the pinion angle will be. Before I left for the Hot Rod Institute, I put together a mock up of the engine and the transmission. That consisted of a hollowed out 454 and a short tail shaft turbo 400 transmission

I set the engine in place between the frame rails with blocks and tried to get a feel for where the driveshaft would end up, gave up and decided to locate it permanently

1949 Chevrolet Progress 2012 02 20 DSCN0315 With the engine setting on blocks between the rails, I was not happy with the style of engine mounts. My father purchased a different set of mounts from SpeedWay. I like the look of them much better. These mounts need some brackets fabricated to attach them to the chassis (this is after all a chassis fabrication class). So out came the cardboard. I have to thank Kyle Harder for his assistance here.
