El_Camino_Page_70001 Ok, the engine is in. However it has brought to light a problem. The new Global West Springs have not collapsed under the weight of the engine. The upper control arms are hard up against the upper bump stops. There is no travel in the front suspension at all, even when you have four guys sit on the frame. You guessed it. I have to do the front suspension over again. After trying many things it has been decided that the Global West springs must come back out and the original BB springs reinstalled.
El_Camino_Page_70002 Here we go. Out with the new in with the old. I hope I do not scratch the paint. Ha!
El_Camino_Page_70003 Not too much damage on this side, one punctured ball joint boot, and some minor scratches in the paint.
El_Camino_Page_70004 Son number 2 had a year head start on me but I think I am catching up.
El_Camino_Page_70005 Now that the unexpected spring problem has been straighten out it is time to start on the always occurring header clearances problem. You know, Hooker has been making these headers for over thirty years. You would think that they could bend these pipes so there would be no clearance problems. It really would not take much of a change. Note the lack of clearance between the header and the brake distribution block. Anyone else had this problem?
El_Camino_Page_70006 Out comes the header again for the first of many times for many different reasons. I got pretty good at it after a while.
El_Camino_Page_70007 To correct the clearance problem on the brake distribution block problem all we have to do if push this last tube over a little. There is lots of room for the tube. Someone send a note to Hooker to have them change the design please. Think it will do any good?
El_Camino_Page_70008 There that is better.
El_Camino_Page_70009 Ok, now for the right side brake line clearance problem. To be honest I do not know how the header could be made so that this side would not be a problem.
El_Camino_Page_70010 We need to bend this line very carefully so we do not knick it. The line was taken out and replace several time to get the right bends.
 El_Camino_Page_70011 That is better.
El_Camino_Page_70012 Another view.
El_Camino_Page_70013 With the header back in there is lots of clearance and the line is hard to see.
El_Camino_Page_70014 Now both the headers are out again. All I have to do is put them back in again.
El_Camino_Page_70015 Went to bleed the brakes, I was able to bleed the master cylinder, but could not get the brake lines to bleed. I finally removed the line from the side of the master and could not get an brake fluid out of it. Yes, once again I must again do something over again. I told you early on that redoing things got to be a pattern on this car. Oh well, I will just keep plugging away at it.
El_Camino_Page_70016 New master send overnight by Classic Brake Rebuilders.
El_Camino_Page_70017 Bleed the new master cylinder.
 El_Camino_Page_70018 Mini starter installed.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Shift linkage installed.
El_Camino_Page_70020 Torque converter dust shield installed, transmission pan painted
El_Camino_Page_70021 Making progress, the under side is looking like the underside of a car. It needs some exhaust.
El_Camino_Page_70022 Fuel pump bolted on, water pump bolted on, the carb. is just sitting there. Headers are bolted on I hope for the last time.
