word-image So..I was having two problems with the alternator, one was it sounded like a bearing was going, and the second is the last time I drove the Jeep the volt gauge was at 16 volts. Time to replace the alternator. This is a power master 17295. Although Quadratec lists this for 1975 thru 1980 it does have the plug in the side for the leads to use the internal voltage regulator.
word-image Step one, disconnect the battery
word-image I’m a firm believer in anti-seize so all the bolts and nuts came right off

I had powder coated the bracket, and powder coat is a plastic so I had run a ground wire from the block to the top mounting bolt of the alternator, reading PowerMaster’s installation instructions it states you should run a separate ground wire.

word-image PowerMaster also has change the recommended method to tighten the belt, although the ½ in belt deflection method is listed they want you to put a socket on the nut for the pulley on the alternator and tight the belt just to the point the pulley no longer slips on the belt and you just start to be able to turn the motor over( turning the nut on the pulley clockwise).
word-image Volt gauge seemed a little high to me but still in the green, called PowerMaster and they state they shoot for 14.7 volts, I as getting 12.68 on my Snap-On volt meter.
word-image Looks like we are good to go.
