1997 American Dream 2012 11 02 Mechanical Awning First Falling Off

I haven’t posted anything here in awhile. I have been doing small projects here and there. This one was not so small The awning almost fell off the side of the RV. It appears that originally the cover for the awning and the trim that holds the rubber cover in place were riveted in place. This is see looking down from the roof and awning.

Electrolysis may have been going on between unlike metals and the rivets have disintegrated. This is looking up at the awning from the ground.

I punched out the remains of the rivets, cleaned all the caulking and installed stainless steel “sheet metal” bolts 3/8 by 1 1/2 inches. They did not come through the inside and are definitely anchored, in fact I think you would rip the whole side off now instead of the awning coming off.

I will do the rest of the rivets the same way in the off season
