2010 Front Engine Dragster Week 2010 09 09

REMEMBER TO CLICK PICTURES FOR MORE DETAIL / LARGER PICTURE

It has been awhile since I produced an update. There has been progress on a couple of fronts. I am sitting here waiting from a call from the painter to see If I will be running out to Indiana tomorrow. If I do not leave tomorrow, I will not be able to leave for Indiana until next Thursday. It will be very tight but on tI might be picking up the dragster to brine.

First up are the mechanical updates

P8270007_small Here you see the front of the engine with out the water pump. The engine plate bolts between the water pump and the timing cover. This moves the water pump out so shims have to be made so that the nipples of the water pump engage the timing cover.
IMG_6422_small Here the shims have been made, and below they are being installed. On the last trip out the engine was brought back here to Rochester for detailing. The valve covers need to be stripped and redone, and breathers installed.

IMG_6468_small Tires have been mounted on the rims. Note the Hoosier tires from Indiana.

Next are updates on the body and chassis.

The Body and chassis has been shipped off to Bewley’s Garage, 220 Park Drive, Plainfield, Indiana, Carey Bewley is doing the paint work and his e-mail is careybewley@yahoo.com and phone number is (317) 372-2244.

The entire body was sanded, then smoothed, guide coat applied and then block sanded.

Here we see the base coats for the candy green to be applied later. The way the two different shades of green are obtained is the under coats are different.

The candy green is going on, there will be five total coats of the candy green. Once that is done the tape covering the white strips is pulled and the pin striping and gold leaf begins. Once that is done three coats of clear.

This is only some of the tape pulled to revile some of the white strips.
DSCN0824_small Ok, it has made the trip home and is now in my garage. It now needs to be wired, plumbed, and started. LOTS of work to be done by February 01 for the show out in Indianapolis. It will be awhile before it looks this complete again.
