Metal Art: Little Men 2016 11 12

After the Lamp project, I decided to make some more “art”. I wanted to create some trophies for the people that help support the Front Engine Dragster forum with their expertise.

I went out to the internet again and found some pretty elaborate examples.

I like this one and it would be really neat if the light was to work.

I’m not so hot of the use of lag bolts for the toes and it just seems wrong to use good tools to make this.

The nuts as the back bone works really well.

The overall effect is good. When I build these in the future, I want to try and have pretty welds and have a lot of fit and finish.

I did not take pictures of the build and I needed to make a number of these so I keep the pieces simple and easy to reproduce.

The thought was to give a salute to the people that contribute to the Front Engine Dragster forum. These people check their respective areas pretty much daily or even more often. So I made these out of pistons, rods, rod end caps, push rods, lifters and rocker arms. I set the endcaps at an angle to make them look like they were walking to give motion to the figure (my son’s idea). I have the figure saluting, and had little plaques made up for each person. I did keep one for myself.

If I ever get a chance, I would like to come back to this to see how elaborate I can get, not a larger metal man, but one with a lot of detail.
